The last day of the Nissan Kitesurf Pro in Noumea, New Caledonia also signaled the end of a great 2011 PKRA freestyle season. Â The Noumea stop was won by Alex Pastor (ESP, Airush) and Asia Litwin (POL, Nobile). Â After seven events on five continents all the results are in: Â Youri Zoon (NED, Slingshot) and Gisela Pulido (ESP, Airush) are the 2011 world champions. Â The wind never came up on the last day to run the best trick competition, but everyone enjoyed the beautiful New Caledonian weather and the closing ceremony.
The spectators on the beach of El Medano came in large numbers today for the Kite Masters in Tenerife. The wind picked up around midday and kept increasing until it reached a solid 25 knots. The PKRA riders brought an amazing show for the crowd on the beach. The new format of competition for the Kite Masters combined high jumps and technical maneuvers which showed all aspects of freestye kitesurfing. For those of you who did not have the chance to come to Tenerife you can follow it live on: http://www.livestream.com/prokitetour
The stronger the wind got, the higher the kitesurfers jumped. The high jumps allowed the riders to perform great boards off. They also executed handle passes which are considered as the most technical tricks, and are also referred to as wakeboard tricks.

DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE RED BULL BATALLA DE TRAFALGAR, THE MOST UNUSUAL KITESURF EVENT OF THE YEAR?
Spain, France and England will see each other’s faces on the sea because of this competition. Don’t miss the chance to participate in it alongside the best kiters of the moment! Gisela Pulido and Mallory de Villemarque will be the captains of the Spanish and the French armies, respectively.
Pablo:Â Tell us about you, how did you start in this sport?
Marilou: I always wanted to compete, even when I was wakeboarding and snowboarding, but I was sort of to ‘shy’ for it. Now, a bit older, I finished everything I wanted (University and I even had a bit of carrier experience) I have no more reason not to try it! I first started kiting in Quebec (French part of Canada) 5 years ago. Then, move from place to place, in search of wind. I even stop in St Pere Pescador to teach with K3 and really liked it (I Love the Spanish vibe!). Since 2 years now, I’m more dedicated to the sport and my personal goals. Every year there is some progress, new sponsors, stuff that I learn. It’s a different way of leaving life. It’s leaving every day ‘for’ and ‘from’ your passion. It’s worth any difficulties! I try to appreciate every moment of it.

PKRA Freestyle and Wave rankings points to reverted to standard point system

During the PKRA Germany event last week the riders met with IKA Executive Secretary, Markus Schwendtner, and PKRA tour manager Mauricio Toscano and requested by unanimous vote to revert the freestyle and wave ranking point system to the traditional point system as it is easier to understand and points for competitions can be estimated in advance, independent from the number of riders participating.
