December 12th 2012 finally saw the wind play ball for the Hong Kong Kiteboard Federation (HKKF) and allowed it to successfully complete its first national class race day on Hong Kong waters. The winds here can be very fickle and it can take a lot of commitment to get a weekend day-off and enough knots to work in combo. Billed as the HK New Year’s Race it has taken three hits to pull it off, so lucky we have two New Year’s to choose from over here. Certainly it was worth the wait in the end for the fantastic atmosphere and competiveness that marked the day.

The countdown begins to the KTA Vietnam in Mui Ne next week – the 15th – 19th February. Its round two of the Asian Freestyle and KTA Freestyle Tour Championships, along with for the first time ever a full blown Asian Old Skool Championship event and you thought staying hooked in was a thing of the past. Hosted by our key partners and sponsors for this round C2Sky (http://c2skykitecenter.com/ (http://c2skykitecenter.com/)) the KTA is excited to be returning in its third season to Mui Ne which can serve up some of the strongest winds and hardcore water conditions that we see on the tour. Last year there was a blip as the wind held off at the beginning of the event, but by the end it came through and results and Frenchie’s camera work speak for themselves.

The PKRA World Tour has released the schedule for the 2012 season and will be traveling around the world once again to the most exotic destinations. It’s promising to be an exciting year with 15 destinations on the calendar giving the opportunity to riders from the farthest corners of the hearth to partake in a PKRA event. In addition this...

ISAF is pleased to announce that there will be a series of Kiteboarding format trials held in Santander, Spain from 21-25 March. The Prince Felipe High Performance Centre that is hosting the evaluation event will also host the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships. In May 2011 ISAF Council selected Windsurfing and/or Kiteboarding as a possible event for the 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition. In November 2011 ISAF Council agreed that a specialist evaluation team be appointed to look at the format and event management implications for Kiteboarding.

The qualification system for the KSP world tour shall give the top wave riders in the world the opportunity to compete against each other, while creating a clear pathway of how to enter a KSP event and giving riders from as many nations as possible a chance to compete.

2012 will see a slight change in the World Championship Titles and associated world rankings to reflect the development of the disciplines in 2011.The focus will be on four major disciplines – Freestyle, Course Racing, Slalom and Wave. These disciplines have world and continental championships as well as full world ranking systems. Any other disciplines – like speed, big air etc, may hold world and continental championships, but due to the low number of events will not have full world rankings in place.

The KTA Asian Kiteboard tour and TV sailing channel Marine Scene Asia announced today the signing of a Media Partnership agreement for the current Asian competition season. Marine Scene Asia is a specialist sailing channel that produces programming covering all aspects of the Asian yachting and boating scene. In particular it focuses on covering competitive sailing regatta’s which offers a new outlet and audience base for the KTA and kiteboarding.
